3.1 Rails & Fixings
- Rails are delivered to site in pre-cut bundles and lifted to roof-level storage areas.
- Purpose-made brackets clamp directly to the standing seam roof to secure the rails to the structural steel frame.
- Rails are spaced to allow two rails per row of modules, creating four secure fixing points per module.
3.2 Modules (Solar Panels)
- Modules are delivered on wooden pallets.
- Each module is placed on the rails and secured using purpose-made clamps fixed to the rail channel with bolts and hand tools.
- This process is repeated until the full array is installed. Module DC cables are plugged together using manufacturer connectors to form the required string layouts.
3.3 DC Cabling
- Each module includes factory-fitted DC leads with industry-standard connectors. These are linked beneath the panels to create the required string configuration.
- DC cables are secured neatly to the underside of the modules using clips and ties to prevent movement and abrasion.
- Upon exiting the array, DC cabling is routed on a dedicated cable basket to the building entry point.
- Inside the building, the DC cables are enclosed within dedicated trunking for protection and compliance.
3.4 Inverters, Firefighter Switches & Switchgear
- Array strings are connected to firefighter switches, installed at appropriate locations.
- DC cables are connected using MC4 plugs and terminated using calibrated crimping tools and cable cutters.
- All DC terminations into firefighter switches and inverters are completed before final array connections, ensuring no high DC voltages appear in unconnected cables.
- Inverters, isolators, meters, trunking and all switchgear are mounted on robust Unistrut frameworks using specialist roof clamps, nuts, bolts and hand tools.
