Evans Electrical was appointed to deliver the full electrical services package for the landmark Cardiff Bus Interchange, a central feature of Cardiff’s Central Square regeneration scheme. Located next to Cardiff Central Railway Station, this cutting-edge facility brings together a 14-bay bus terminus with extensive passenger amenities, creating a modern, accessible, and environmentally conscious transport hub.

The interchange is designed to improve connectivity between bus, rail, and cycling routes, encouraging sustainable transport across South Wales. The development also prioritises accessibility, with inclusive safety systems and user-friendly design, supporting Transport for Wales’ long-term vision for greener, smarter travel.

Evans Activities Comprised

Power Infrastructure:
– LV Distribution including full containment systems
– Earthing & bonding across all services
– UPS installation (3 rack-mounted systems) to support critical data services
– Provision for future EV charging infrastructure via MCCB in main panel
Lighting & Controls:
– Central battery emergency lighting system
– Energy-efficient general and feature lighting systems
– External bus bay floodlighting (anti-glare units)
Life Safety & Fire Systems:
– Comprehensive fire alarm system with aspirating smoke detectors
– Disabled refuge alarms and assistance call systems
– DeafWatch-linked induction loop system
– Amendments and upgrades to existing temporary fire system
– Klargester Control Panel Alarm system installation
Security & Communications:
– Access control and intercom systems
– CCTV system and intruder alarm installation
– Public Address & Voice Alarm (PAVA) system
– Structured data cabling including additional Wi-Fi access points
– Audio-visual infrastructure for passenger communications

Specialist Installations:
– AV and IT/data points across passenger and staff areas
– Installation of Flock Off bird deterrent system
– Fit-out of ancillary facilities including bin store and mezzanine redesign
– PRS POD lighting installation
Documentation & Handover:
– Comprehensive testing & commissioning
– Working drawings, as-fitted drawings, and O&M manuals
– 12-month maintenance support package
