Overview

Evans Electrical Limited was appointed to deliver the complete electrical services package for the Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) new regional hub in Treforest — a modern, 133,000 sq. ft. government office facility accommodating over 1,700 staff.

This significant Cat A and Cat B fit-out formed part of the UK Government’s regional estate modernisation programme, designed to consolidate operations, improve efficiency, and provide high-quality, sustainable workplaces across the country.

The Treforest office combines open-plan workspaces with meeting and collaboration areas, welfare facilities, and integrated staff amenities — all designed to foster productivity, wellbeing, and accessibility within a highly efficient, low-carbon environment.

Electrical Services Delivered

Evans Electrical provided a full design, installation, testing, and commissioning service across all electrical systems, ensuring compliance with DWP’s robust performance and security standards.
The scope of works included:

High Voltage Infrastructure: HV switchgear and transformer installation
Power & Distribution: LV distribution including generator interface for 2.5MVA load, and life safety generator
Lighting Systems: High-efficiency LED lighting, emergency lighting, and external car park lighting
Safety & Security Systems: Fire alarm, CCTV, door entry/access control, disabled refuge and toilet alarm systems
Energy Management & Sustainability: 56.5 kWp photovoltaic (PV) system, surge protection, and electric heating solutions
Specialist Systems: Induction loops for accessibility, data installation, and BIM coordination for full digital project delivery
Testing & Handover: Comprehensive commissioning, as-fitted drawings, O&M manuals, and maintenance support

All installations were completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance, supporting the project’s energy efficiency and resilience objectives.

Sustainable and Intelligent Building Design

Sustainability was a central priority for the DWP Treforest hub. Evans Electrical integrated a 56.5 kWp photovoltaic system to generate renewable electricity on-site, reducing carbon emissions and operational costs.

Other measures included intelligent lighting control, efficient electric heating, and smart power management, ensuring the building operates at optimal performance levels throughout its lifecycle.

The project’s use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) enabled coordinated design development, efficient installation, and high-quality data handover for ongoing facilities management.

Outcome

Delivered over a 12-month period, the new Department for Work and Pensions Treforest office represents one of South Wales’ most advanced and sustainable government workplaces.
