About this Project

Overview

Evans Electrical were appointed to deliver the full electrical, mechanical and public health installation for an extension to The Grange University Hospital’s Emergency Department in Cwmbran, near Newport.

The scheme forms part of a wider investment by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to increase emergency care capacity and improve patient experience. The project involved the integration of a new three-storey extension with the existing, fully operational hospital, requiring careful planning and coordination to ensure continuity of critical services throughout the works.

The Project

The new extension includes a ground-floor Emergency Department triage area, with upper floors designed as flexible open-plan space to support the hospital’s evolving operational needs. Significant upgrades to the building’s electrical and mechanical infrastructure were required to support the expanded facilities, including new power distribution, lighting, ventilation, medical gas systems and data infrastructure.

Our team worked closely with project stakeholders to safely deliver complex MEP installations within a live healthcare environment, adhering to strict compliance, infection control and health and safety requirements.

Incoming services and LV distribution linking new and existing buildings
Lighting, emergency lighting and external lighting systems
Small power, tertiary power supplies and bedhead trunking
Fire detection and alarm systems
Nurse call, panic alarm and access control systems
CCTV, AV intercom, PA system and induction loops
IT & data installation (CommScope approved)
Photovoltaic installation (61.625kWp across two systems)
Lightning protection, earthing and bonding
Helipad lighting control relocation
Testing, commissioning, O&M documentation and 12 months maintenance
