Pontypridd 3-16 School

The scheme included the refurbishment and upgrade of the existing craft block, transforming it into a high-performing, stand-alone building designed to operate at net zero carbon, as well as the fit-out of new teaching, recreational, and sports facilities.

The design required advanced building services to provide a safe, accessible, and digitally connected environment, ensuring both high-quality teaching and long-term operational resilience. Evans Electrical’s role was central in integrating renewable technologies, energy-efficient lighting, and cutting-edge communication systems, while delivering within tight timescales to meet the school’s operational requirements.

Evans Activities Comprised

– LV Distribution: Full design, installation, and commissioning of LV switchgear, sub-main cabling, and metering.

– Renewable Energy Systems: Installation of a high-capacity photovoltaic array to enable the facility’s net zero carbon status.

– Lighting Systems: Supply and installation of LED general and feature lighting with intelligent lighting controls.

– Emergency & Life Safety Lighting: Central battery-backed emergency lighting system for all teaching and communal areas.

– Fire & Safety Systems: Comprehensive fire detection and alarm system integrated with disabled refuge alarms.

– Security Infrastructure: Site-wide CCTV system, access control, and intruder alarms.

– Specialist Facilities: Induction loop systems for hearing-impaired users and disabled toilet alarm systems.

– Audio-Visual & Communications: Classroom AV systems, Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA), and IT/data cabling.

– Sustainable Transport Provisions: Supply and commissioning of EV charging points for staff and visitors.

– Mechanical & Specialist Connections: Electrical connections for heating, ventilation, and specialist equipment.

– Protective Measures: Earthing, bonding systems, and lightning protection.

– Testing & Commissioning: Complete testing and verification of all systems.

– Handover Documentation: As-fitted drawings, O&M manuals, and certification.
