About this Project
Overview
Evans Electrical Limited delivered the full mechanical and electrical services for the construction of a new, purpose-built four-storey sixth form college in Cwmbran, Torfaen. The £24 million project, leased and operated by Coleg Gwent, has become the home for all post-16 education in the Torfaen borough, bringing students together under one modern, sustainable roof.
Project Scope
Working collaboratively with the main contractor and design team, Evans Electrical was responsible for the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of all mechanical and electrical systems.
The new campus provides a wide range of high-quality facilities, including:
- Two large atriums and a performance hall
- Multi-use classrooms, IT and science laboratories, and an art studio
- Acoustic and specialist learning rooms
- A library and study centre
- A café with external terrace and roof garden
- Breakout and social spaces
Accessibility was a key focus of the project. The college includes specialist facilities for pupils with additional learning needs, such as hearing loops, acoustic treatment, tailored colour schemes and signage for the visually impaired, and a hygiene room with a hoist.
Externally, the works included a large car park, a new access road, turning circle, bus stop, and public realm space, alongside the installation of a new substation, sprinkler house, and telecoms infrastructure.
